Quality policy: ULiège's commitment
Taking into account the social responsibility of a public university 1 such as the Université de Liège, and based on its strategic plan, it is committed to providing quality education, open to all, with a view to progress and social emancipation. It assumes its teaching mission by doing its utmost to :
- enable students to open up to the world, to the challenges of the 21st century, to the needs of a society in transition, to debate and to complexity;
- encourage students to become active, responsible citizens and develop their critical faculties;
- encourage them to be active participants in their own learning ;
- guarantee that everyone is welcome, that everyone is treated equally, and that they have every opportunity to succeed;
- enhance students' versatility and adaptability.
To this end, it undertakes to :
- support students in developing responsible and active citizenship in professional, social, economic and cultural life, through training at the highest level, particularly in the challenges of transitions ;
- promote their autonomy and self-fulfilment ;
- develop scientific curiosity, a critical sense, and an awareness of individual and collective responsibilities and duties by encouraging systemic approaches;
- opening up equal opportunities for social emancipation through inclusive policies and lifelong learning.
To meet these commitments, the company relies on a quality assurance policy defined through various processes:
- regular collective reflection on curricula, teaching approaches, academic rhythms and assessment methods;
- perpetuate the close link between teaching and research, scientific rigor and the development of a critical mind
based on knowledge; - providing the resources needed to support students and supervisors at every stage of their career;
- provide people and structures with relevant information ("key indicators") to steer programs and other activities;
- teacher training through the Institut de Formation et de Recherche en Enseignement Supérieur, and the exchange of best practices through the Réseau Qualité de l'Enseignement ;
- periodic evaluations at all levels to ensure that teaching is meeting its objectives and the needs of students and society.
