Lifelong Learning Unit
Missions
The Lifelong Learning Unit (CFTLV) supports the development of high-quality university continuing education programs that meet the needs of society, the professional world, and learners, while assisting the faculties and departments in implementing their projects.
Its work is organized around four priority areas:
1. Monitoring and Strategic Guidance
The CFTLV monitors, analyzes, and forecasts trends related to lifelong learning. It helps identify emerging needs, formulates proposals for strategic direction, and participates in the implementation of initiatives that promote the development of continuing education programs within the University.
2. Support for Training Programs and Projects
The Unit assists project leaders in preparing applications for certificates, micro-certifications, and other training programs.
It also contributes to structural partnerships and collaborative projects that align with its areas of focus.
The CFTLV also advises and assists project promoters with funding for their training programs:
- Funding applications under Article 74, paragraph 6 of the “Paysage” decree submitted to ARES for inter-university and/or higher education institution certificates, subject to various conditions;
- Support in preparing applications and renewals for “training vouchers” and “educational leave” accreditation.[1]
3. Accessibility of the Program
The CFTLV works to enhance the accessibility and clarity of the University’s lifelong learning offerings. To this end, it monitors and updates the University’s program offerings and works closely with the Communications Office to improve their visibility among various audiences.
The CFTLV also contributes to institutional discussions regarding the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
4. Coordination and Networking of Lifelong Learning Stakeholders
By its cross-functional nature, the CFTLV works closely with the faculties and university departments involved in the development of continuing education. It serves as a coordinating and liaison body between the various stakeholders, particularly with the “Continuing Education” Unit of the Office of Academic Affairs regarding administrative matters related to enrollment and tuition fees.
The CFTLV, for its part, provides regulatory and pedagogical support for applications to the ARES for certification approval.
The CFTLV also maintains close ties with institutional partners and organizations specializing in innovation and training, particularly Liège Creative.
Furthermore, it operates within the European network eucen (European Universities Continuing Education Network), of which the University of Liège is a founding member, to contribute to the exchange of ideas, experiences, knowledge, and best practices regarding lifelong learning for adult learners and to influence policy development in this area at the regional, national, and European levels.
Through these missions, the CFTLV helps to structure, support, and promote a coherent, innovative, and accessible continuing education program, thereby fully contributing to the University’s mission of serving society.
