Ucoopia · The NGO of the universities
We link universities to real-world problems
Created in early 2026, Ucoopia was born out of the merger of Eclosio and ULB-Coopération—the NGOs of ULiège and ULB—joined in this dynamic by UMONS. This ambitious initiative is based on a strong conviction: in the face of major global challenges, bringing the academic world and international cooperation closer together is essential to strengthen the impact of the actions taken.
At the crossroads of academic research, fieldwork, and civic engagement, Ucoopia positions itself as a true platform for university engagement. The NGO thus contributes to the teaching, research, and service missions of its three founding universities, both in Belgium and in the countries where it operates.
To this end, Ucoopia demonstrates the complementarity between research and fieldwork, promoting the contributions of academic research to fieldwork, and vice versa. To achieve this, it participates in action research projects and promotes the international mobility of students and researchers in order to work together to find solutions to the major challenges of our time.
Actions on 4 continents
Active in 10 countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Europe, Ucoopia develops projects co-created with its local partners around four major themes:
- Sustainable food systems and natural resource management.
- Equitable access to quality healthcare
- The social and professional integration of young people through decent employment and entrepreneurship
- Promoting critical and supportive global citizenship on university campuses.
Increased presence on campuses
In Liège, Gembloux, Brussels, and Mons, Ucoopia informs, raises awareness, and mobilizes students and members of the university community on various global issues related to the deconstruction of power relations, with the aim of contributing to inclusive, sustainable, equitable, and supportive societies. Within university curricula, the NGO supervises several seminars and portfolios recognized in course programs, organizes transdisciplinary interventions, sets up service learning, and supports students completing their final year projects in its projects. It also supports student groups in organizing awareness-raising actions and mobilization projects by strengthening their thematic, methodological, and group skills. At the same time, Ucoopia pursues advocacy strategies with academic authorities and networking with civil society and the university community.
Ucoopia is also a member of the Uni4Coop Consortium Uni4Coop, which brings together French-speaking Belgian university NGOs (Ucoopia, Louvain Coopération, and Fucid). These organizations pool their resources to carry out joint projects in all the countries where they operate.
