Biography

Doctor in Political and Social Sciences, Justine Contor dedicated her doctoral research to Belgian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the field of development cooperation, exploring their practices and the professionals working within them in a neoliberal context. She also worked on issues related to Global Citizenship Education (GCE) within the Belgian NGO sector and made significant contributions to the Global Citizenship Education Handbook.

Currently, Justine Contor is conducting post-doctoral research on how social infrastructures (and the individuals involved in them) could play a role in providing care/repair functions in post-disaster environments. Contor argues that the concept of social infrastructures (borrowed from architects and urban planners) offers a framework for considering how to care for a territory after an extreme situation that profoundly reconfigures both the affected area and its ways of existence. These research efforts align with a transdisciplinary approach, as she now conducts research in the field of Cares and Repairs Studies within the Faculty of Architecture (ULiège).

Finally, her doctoral thesis work, various scientific expertise missions, and regular collaborations with the Spiral Research Center have enabled her to develop expertise in qualitative research methods (interviews, focus groups, participant observations, etc.). This knowledge is something she teaches at various levels and in different programs at both the university and higher education levels.
