Biography
Whenever he meets new students, Damien Jacob always makes a point of specifying that he holds a degree in Economic Geography. "Just to show them that it is not always neccessary to have a technical background in order to go into the IT sector". He has had an interest in Information Technology and the Technology of Communication for more than 25 years.
How did he become a specialist in a subject that is, on the face of it, so different to Geography? "During my studies at the University of Liege, I completed a TFE on the influence of the telecom sector on land management", he recalls. This work made it possible for him to meet the managers of the SPI, the agency for the economic development of the province of Liege for whom he worked for 14 ans.
Since 2006, Damien Jacob has been an expert at the AWT (Walloon Telecommunications Agency), where he informs and accompanies SMEs with their commercial development on the web.
He combines the above role with that of visiting professor at HEC-ULg but also at the College of Higher Education of the Province of Liege, where he has taught classes on e-commerce for nearly twenty years.
