Biography
Nathalie Crutzen, holder of a PhD in Business and Economics, is Professor at HEC Liège - Management School of the University of Liège. She is responsible for academic activities (ie. scientific research, academic teaching, supervision of Master and PhD theses & various services) in the field of sustainability, strategy & management control.
Professor Nathalie Crutzen is also the founder and the academic director of the Smart City Institute (SCI) at HEC Liège. This institute deals with the topic of Smart Cities and, more broadly, with the transition of cities/territories towards sustainability (economic, environmental & social aspects). The SCI proposes to approach this thematic from a managerial angle (not a technical one) while collaborating with other disciplines (economy, geography, architecture, computer & environmental sciences, etc.).
Prof. Dr. Nathalie Crutzen has developed, over the last years, various research projects on sustainability, strategy and related management (control); on sustainability innovations as well as on sustainable and smart cities. She has published many papers in international scientific journals such as Ecological Economics ; Public Management Review; IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management ; Technological Forecasting and Social Change; Journal of Cleaner Production ; Administration and Society ; The Annals of Regional Science ; Government Information Quarterly ; International Review of Administrative Science; Sustainability Accounting, Management and Policy Journal; Social and Environmental Accountability Journal ; Cities, ... In parallel, she has contributed to several book chapters and her research work has been presented regularly to the most pretigious conferences in her fields of research (EGOS, EURAM, EAA, ERSA...).
She is also member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Sustainability Accounting, Management and Policy Journal as well as member of the Steering Committee of the Environmental and Sustainability Management Accounting Network (EMAN-EU.org).
Since 2016, Prof. Dr. Nathalie Crutzen has received over 6 million euros research funding (from European, national and regional competitive funding programs, as well as private companies).
Finally, Professor Nathalie Crutzen has an international profile. She has a lot of collaborations with other universities, business schools and various organizations (businesses, cities) all over the world, especially to deal with issues related to sustainability, strategic management and smart cities. She has been Visiting Scholar/Professor at the Schulich School of Business (Toronto, Canada), Nottingham University Business School (UK), Leuphana University (Luneburg, Germany), Rennes Business School (France), EDHEC (Lille, France), University of South Australia (Adelaide, Australia) and NOVA SBE (Lisbon, Portugal).
