Biography

Graduate in archaeology and art history from the University of Liège. Director of the Museums of the City of Liège (end 2024). Lecturer. Member of the Senate Arts Committee. Former Chairman of the Centre d¿art contemporain de La Chataigneraie in Flémalle (Liège). Adviser to the Walloon Ministers responsible for heritage from 1993 to 2000. He then went on to become Director of the Directorate for the Restoration of Historic Monuments, and then Inspector General of the Walloon Heritage Department. He has won a number of awards during his career, including the Larbalette Prize from the Liège Archaeological Institute in 1984 (Saint-Jacques Church in Liège) and the Ford Motor Company Cultural Heritage Prize in 1988 (project to develop the site of the former Stavelot Abbey). He was President of the provincial chamber of monuments, sites and excavations (CPMSF) for the province of Liège. At European level, he has been President of the International Association of the European Heritage Network (Herein aisbl) and a member of the Council of Europe¿s CDCPP (Initiator and rapporteur for "the strategy for heritage in Europe in the 21st century", 2017). He is the author of several books on heritage, in particular on Wallonia.
