Biography
After earning a master¿s degree in Biochemistry, Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Liège in 2014, Arnaud Vanden Broeck completed a PhD in Biophysics and Structural Biology at the Institut de Génétique et de Biologie Moléculaire et Cellulaire (IGBMC) in Strasbourg, under the supervision of Dr. Valérie Lamour. His doctoral research focused on the structural study of DNA topoisomerases¿enzymes essential for maintaining genome integrity.
Building on his expertise in structural biology, he went on to pursue a postdoctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Dr. Sebastian Klinge at the Rockefeller University in New York, supported by an EMBO fellowship. Over five years, Arnaud Vanden Broeck investigated the assembly of the human ribosome using cryo-electron microscopy. This work led to several publications in leading journals such as Science and earned him notable distinctions, including the Scaringe Award from the RNA Society and the Blavatnik Regional Award in Chemical Sciences from the Blavatnik Foundation and the New York Academy of Sciences.
In 2024, he returned to the University of Liège as an FNRS MISU investigator and ERC Starting Grant recipient to establish his own laboratory dedicated to the study of gene expression regulation in kinetoplastid parasites.
