Biography

Shady Attia is a professor in Sustainable Architecture & Building Technology at Liège University in Belgium. He is specialized in the design decision-support of high-performance buildings. He is heading the Sustainable Building Design Lab that he created in 2014. Prof. Dr. Ing. Shady Attia has experience in the field of research innovations, capacity building, and technology transfer: Related to the function, conception and construction of high-performance buildings including zero energy and carbon-neutral buildings. Prof. Attia examines the diverse aspects of adapting existing technologies in terms of construction principles, functionality, energy use, optimization, and individualization for buildings decarbonization. Dr. Attia is the author of the book Net Zero Energy Buildings and the book Regenerative and Positive Impact Architecture with more than 60 peer-reviewed Q1 journal publications. For the last consecutive years, he was ranked in the Top 2% of World Scientists based on Stanford University ranking in the fields of building and construction, energy, built environment and design. Also, he is an active member of the International Building Performance Simulation Association (IBPSA) and different International Energy Agency committees. He is Group A leader of Annex 80 on resilient cooling in buildings and an active member of different ISO committees representing Belgium and the Belgian Bureau of Normalization. Dr. Attia is a LEED accredited professional and Faculty Member of the US Green Buildings Council and helped with the certification of several LEED projects in three continents.
