Biography

Jerome De Cooman is a PhD researcher under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Nicolas Petit and Prof. Dr. Pieter Van Cleynenbreugel. His research project focuses on the regulation of artificial intelligence at a EU level and compares the risk- and rights-based approach to regulation in two chosen technological contexts, i.e., biotechnology and environmental law. More generally, Jerome is interested in the interaction between new technologies and legal science, including European competition law, intellectual property, and data protection.

In addition to his thesis, Jerome is also teaching assistant in European Law, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Applications and teaches students from Faculty of Law and Political Science, School of Engineering, and Faculty of Philosophy & Letters.

Jerome joined the EU Legal Studies in 2018. He holds a Master of Laws from the University of Liege (2017) and a Master of Management Sciences from HEC-University of Liege (2018). He also attends the Law, Cognitive Technology & Artificial Intelligence Study Programme of the Brussels School of Competition (BSC) (2019).

Since 2021, Jerome is also Administrative Manager at the Brussels School of Competition (BSC) in the context of the Executive Master in Law & AI and junior member of the Academic Society for Competition Law (ASCOLA). Since 2022, he is also junior editor of the Yearbook of Antitrust and Regulatory Studies (YARS) at Centre for Antitrust and Regulatory Studies (CARS) at Warsaw University.
