Biographie

Antonios Vlassis is Senior Researcher in the Center for International Relations Studies (CEFIR), University of Liège and Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Science, University of Liège. From 2023 to 2026, he is the ULIEGE leader/Principal Investigator of two important HORIZON EUROPE projects, focusing on international competitiveness of European film industry (REBOOT-101094796) and on fairness in the European music industry in the light of global music streamers (FairMuse-101095088).

He obtained his PhD in Political Science from Bordeaux University/Sciences Po Bordeaux (France). His research and teaching fields deal with international cooperation, international political economy, global cultural politics, EU cultural and media policies and digital globalisation. Previously, he was teaching and doing research in political science at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), SciencesPo Bordeaux, Université libre de Bruxelles, European School of Political and Social Sciences (ESPOL)-UCL (Lille).

His scientific contributions have appeared, among others, in Global Policy (Wiley), European Foreign Affairs Review (Kluwer), International Communication Gazette (Sage), Media, Culture & Society (Sage), European Journal of Communication (Sage), Third World Quarterly (Routledge), Journal of Digital Media and Policy (Intellect), International Journal of Cultural Policy (Routledge), Fédéralisme Regionalisme (PUL), Études internationales (Institut québécois des hautes études internationales), Politique européenne (L Harmattan), Cuadernos de Información y Comunicación (Universidad Complutense de Madrid), Revue française de Géoéconomie (Choiseul), Politique et sociétés (Société québécoise de science politique), Quaderns del CAC (Conseil catalan de l audiovisuel), Politica e Sociedade (Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina).

He is the author of Gouvernance mondiale et culture: de l'exception à la diversité (Presses universitaires de Liège, 2015) and co-editor of the special issue European policy of culture: between economic paradigm and rhetoric of cultural exception (Politique européenne, 2017). He is also working on platform governance and media regulation and he is co-editor of "La culture à l'ère du numérique : plateformes, normes et politiques" (PUL, 2020).

Since 2009, he has been expert for the following institutions: European Commission, Organisation internationale de la Francophonie, International Federation of Coalitions for Cultural Diversity, Canadian Ministry of Culture (Canadian Heritage), French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, French Ministry of Culture, German Commission for UNESCO. Since 2020, he is also the editor of the Global Watch on Culture and Digital Trade with collaboration of the Centre d'études sur l'intégration et la mondialisation (CEIM)-UQAM.

Since 2014, he has been reviewer, among others, for the following scientific journals: International Journal of Cultural Policy (Routledge), Poetics (Elsevier), Global Media and China (Sage), Global Studies Quarterly (Oxford Academic), Cultural Trends (Routledge), Journal of Information Policy (Penn State University Press), International Communication Gazette (Sage), Journal of Digital Media and Policy (IntellectBooks), Communications: the European Journal of Communication Research (De Gruyter), Global Policy (Wiley-Blackwell), Cambridge Review of International Affairs (Routledge).
