4 Within the University of Liège, which is a public institution and a living and working environment, three general ethical* principles guide the actions of all members of the university community. I GENERAL PRINCIPLES INTEGRITY refers to acting in accordance with a set of principles and values, and demonstrating honesty in their application. At the University, this entails compliance with the rules in force but also adherence to “best practices*” or standards of professional conduct, throughout all activities pursued. In research, scientific integrity is of particular importance and aims to ensure the rigor and reliability of results. This principle also guarantees the quality of education. In the spheres of management, administration, and service, the principle of integrity aims to protect the public interest entrusted to public institutions. Acting with integrity fosters both trust among the university community and society’s trust towards science. ①
