Missions

The General Archives Service manages and preserves the historical archives of the University of Liège and its predecessors. It participates in the proper organisation of current archives, in particular by supporting the central services and faculties in their document management. The General Archives Service also takes care of the valorisation of the heritage by organising digitisation operations, participating in exhibitions and publishing scientific articles.

Organisation

The General Archives Service collaborates with all the University's entities (Liège Centre-ville, Liège Sart Tilman, Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech, Arlon Campus Environnement). The service preserves and enhances the memory of the institution. It holds numerous archive collections (central secretariat collections, professors' archives, central services' archives, etc.). The documents can only be consulted in the reading room located in the basement of building A1. The room is open from Monday to Friday from 9am to 12pm and from 1pm to 4.30pm, by appointment. Admission is free, all consultation is subject to prior authorisation from the archive service, in compliance with the legislation and, in particular, the rules on the protection of privacy.
