General Archives Service: history

The General Archives Service of the University of Liège was created in 1989. Since its creation, it has been responsible for managing, coordinating, preserving and communicating the institution's archives to the best of its ability. In order to open up the archives to research, the department has worked in collaboration with the Library Network, and has begun inventorying the archives of the Central Secretariat. 

As early as October 2020, following a decision by the Board of Directors, an audit was carried out to understand the operation and organization of document management within the University and to improve practices. The audit report was presented to the Board of Directors on July 7, 2021. The report's first recommendation is to position the general archives service within the university organization chart: delineate its objectives and responsibilities.
