Anne-Sophie Nyssen has been the Rector of the University of Liège since 1st October 2022, becoming the 63rd academic to hold this position and the first female Rector of a public university in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. She also chairs the ULiège Board of Directors.
Anne-Sophie Nyssen is a professor of occupational psychology within the ULiège Faculty of Psychology, Speech Therapy and Education. Since completing her PhD at ULiège, and her postdoctoral stay at Stanford University, her research interests have focused on the role of human and organisational factors in the workplace. Anne-Sophie Nyssen is also certified in Ericksonian hypnosis. She has developed a course in the university curriculum on hypnotic process awareness and therapeutic communication.
As Vice-Rector for Education and Welfare from 2018 to 2022, and in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, Anne-Sophie Nyssen launched a process of reflection on a modern vision of the place of the digital in university education. At the same time, she actively participated in the inter-university reforms of Belgian higher education (Décret Paysage) and teacher training. She also developed the #RESPECT campaign, which aims to fight against the various forms of discrimination experienced within the University. During the Covid-19 period, she was behind the initiative to distribute organic solidarity baskets to students.
