Victor-Anselme Dupret
Victor-Anselme Dupret completed his humanities at the age of 16 and his law studies at 20. At 27, he was appointed Deputy Public Prosecutor in Ghent, then King's Public Prosecutor in Tournai. He was rector of the University of Liège for the academic year 1841-1842. He was then 34 years old.
After studying law at the University of Ghent, Victor-Anselme Dupret (1807-1851) entered the judiciary, becoming deputy public prosecutor in Ghent in 1832, and public prosecutor in Kortrijk two years later.
Antoine-Nicolas-Joseph Ernst, then Minister of Justice, had him appointed Professor at the Faculty of Law at the University of Liège (1835). There, he taught in-depth civil law and civil procedure.
Regularly called upon as an expert, he received various proposals for positions which he always seemed to prefer to that of teacher. His loyalty to the institution was encouraged by the government, which raised his salary and decorated him!
Rector in 1841-1842, he had to interrupt his career in 1848 for health reasons, and died prematurely in 1851, leaving numerous articles published in specialized journals and works that remained in manuscript.
