The 1st Congress of the International Mukwege Chair will be organized from November 13th to November 15th in the University of Liège.
It will bring together scientists from all disciplines as well as NGOs and active associations in the field around a central question: how to give a future to women and children victims of sexual violence in conflicts ?
The focus of the Congress is to develop answers to this question, and to the countless others that flow from it, in an interdisciplinary manner, thus pursuing the philosophy and strength of the Chair : the development and promotion of transversal research.
To that end, each half-day will be devoted to one of the pillars of the holistic model developed by Dr. Mukwege :
- Medical care,
- Psychological care,
- Socio-economic rehabilitation,
- Legal care,
these being mixed with the more transversal fields of history and anthropology.
In addition, each pillar will integrate an academic approach (research results presentation) and an empirical approach (giving a voice to associations, NGOs and scientists and highlighting data from the field).
Registrations for the Scientific Congress (day 2 and 3) and the Gala Dinner are open to scientists (doctors, psychologists, lawyers, anthropologists, historians, economists, philosophers), PhD students and students from all these disciplines as well as to NGOs and associations active in the field until 1st September (preferential rate) and until 1st October.
Registrations for the Opening Ceremony (day 1), open to the general public, will be open during the month of October.
Registrations for the "Jambo" Party (charity evening in support of the program Children of Panzi (Panzi Foundation), equally accessible to all, are already open.
