fter his collaboration in the study of Romanesque structures of the Notre-Dame de Tournai Cathedral in 2003, Philippe Sosnowska was attached to the Royal Museums of Art and History from 2004 to 2009, on behalf of the Department of Monuments and Sites of the Brussels Capital Region. "During these years, I was responsible for several large-scale operations in building archaeology. I was thus able to acquire state-of-the-art experience in the study of architectural heritage. From 2009 to 2013, I carried out a doctoral thesis project on MiniARC funds. I joined the Centre de Recherches en Archéologie et Patrimoine of the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB). My doctoral research on building materials in use in Brussels from the 12th to the 18th century highlights the relationship between materials and buildings throughout the history of Brussels and in comparison with other cities. Since 2015, I am a post-doctoral researcher and I collaborate as an expert with the Archaeological Heritage Department of the Brussels Regional Public Service ‘Urbanism and Heritage’. In this context, I have the scientific direction of many archaeological interventions in the field. Since 2015 I am also integrated in several training courses as a teacher: on the one hand, the Master's degree in Conservation and Restoration of Immovable Cultural Heritage and, on the other hand, the Executive Master's Certificate in Architectural, Urban and Landscape Heritage. In these different courses, I teach the discipline of building archaeology and materials technology."

State-of-the-art training at the service of society

"University education must guarantee high-level training in order to enable students to play an active role in society and to contribute to the development and maintenance of a democratic society. The teacher must allow students to develop, to sharpen their curiosity and critical sense of the taught subjects and to develop advanced and innovative skills in the various fields of their training. To do this and to nurture this teaching, the university must develop and promote research of excellence, respectful, innovative, both fundamental and applied. It must be considered in a multidisciplinary way. Doctoral and postdoctoral research is one of the conditions. Research must also export and share its knowledge for the benefit of society as a whole and its various components."
