Biography
Rudi CLOOTS obtained his PhD in Sciences in 1993 from the University of Liege (ULg). As a post-doc, he was awarded by the Robert Schuman Foundation and shared his time in the academic year 1995/1996 between University of Nice, University of Paris and University of Sheffield. He became associate professor in 1997 and then full professor in 2006 in the Chemistry Department (ULiege). Between 2008 and 2014, he was appointed dean of the Faculty of Sciences. Between 2014 and 2018, he served as Vice-Rector for Research of the University of Liege. Since October 2018, he is Vice-Rector for student life and building infrastructures. Besides his institutional responsibilities, he is also directing the "Group of Research in Energy and Environment from Materials" (GREENMAT). GREENMAT is specializing in the development and characterization of inorganic materials in the form of powders, bulk materials or coatings for applications related to energy (new generation PV solar cells, Li/Na ion batteries, electrochromic coatings,...), environment (recycling of silicon-based PV cells, photocatalytic oxides for water/air treatment,...), health (pharmaceutical excipients/API, powders for additive manufacturing in biomedical devices,...) by green chemical synthesis routes.
