Biography
Aida Alvera-Azcárate has a MSc in Marine Sciences (ULPGC, Spain), a Master in Modelling of the Marine Environment by the University of Liège and PhD in Oceanography by the University of Liège, Belgium (2004). After a 3-year post-doc at the University of South Florida (USA), she returned to the University of Liège as FNRS postdoctoral researcher from 2007 to 2012. Since then she has been a Researcher in the GHER group.
Her main research activity is within the field of Ocean Remote Sensing and integrated multiplatform studies of the ocean variability. She¿s the main developer of DINEOF, an open-source software to improve the quality of ocean remote sensing data (interpolating missing data, detecting noise, removal of bad data) that is used by a wide community of international researchers. She is Associate editor of Remote Sensing of Environment, Ocean Dynamics and Scientia Marina. She organizes regularly international conferences, like the International Liege Colloquium on Ocean Dynamics, and the "Ocean Remote Sensing" session at the EGU. She has been coordinator of several Belgian (BELSPO) and international (ESA, EU-COST) projects on the use and analysis of oceanographic satellite data.
