Biography
He has navigated diverse social-ecological contexts such as protected areas, logged forests and forests under participatory management, and led his research from three continents (Europe, Africa, and North America). He built a strong network of collaborators in Europe (Belgium, France, United Kingdom, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland), in Africa (D.R. Congo, Cameroon, Gabon, Republic of Congo), and in the U.S. He commits to transdisciplinary approaches that allow him to work with a diversity of stakeholders comprising civil society, politics, universities, public and private sectors.
Simon aims to develop tools for the timely detection of human activities and ecosystem degradation. He also designs actionable tools for ecosystem management and biodiversity conservation based on evidence from both ecological and social sciences. He seeks to understand global factors influencing coexistence between humans and animals, exploring psycho-social, demographic, and environmental dimensions. The goal is to enable balanced coexistence through wildlife monitoring, assessing human-animal interactions, and integrating conservation into resilient landscape management. Given the urgency of reconciling natural world management with human well-being, his overarching goal is to contribute to maintaining our planet's functionality and resilience over major crises.
