Biography
Dr Hernan Valdes-Socin, graduated in 1994 as a Medical Doctor in the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was Fellow in Internal Medecine at the Hospital de Clínicas José de San Martín , from 1994 to 1997.
He was fellow in Endocrinology at La Timone Hospital of Marseille (Prof Philippe JAQUET). He obtained in 1999 a diploma of Endocrinology (University of la Méditérranée) with congratulations from the Jury. He also worked in an in vitro model of pituitary adenomas cells culture, to test new somatostatin analogues. These compounds are now widely used in endocrine tumors.
Dr Valdes-Socin then moved to the University of Liège, to collaborate with Prof Albert BECKERS. He obtained a Belgian diploma of Medical Doctor (2003) and Endocrinology (2008) both with with cumma sum laude. From 2009 to 2011 he was committed by the FNRS to explore the clinical value of new markers for reproduction and endocrine tumors. Since 2008, Dr Valdes-Socin has a position of Clinical Head, at the Endocrinology Service, CHU de Liège. Since 2019, he is Associated Professor in Physiopathology for Biomedical Sciences, at Liege University.
Scientific activity of Dr Valdes Socin include more than 100 papers, 125 communications to congresses and eleven book chapters. Some papers of Dr Valdes-Socin have been published in prestigious journals such as the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, and the New England Journal of Medicine.
Dr Valdes-Socin has been honored during his professional career with 19 Awards and Distinctions. He obtained twice a Research Grant Award from the French Endocrine Society and three times the Young investigator Award from the Belgian Endocrine Society.
In 2003 he received the Best Young Investigator Award from the European Neuroendocrine Associations in Sorrento, Italy. The Endocrine Society honored him in Philadelphia (USA) with the Endocrine Society Medical Student Achievement Award, for outstanding achievement in Endocrinology. He is the 2017 winner of the Jaumain Foundation Prize, which is awarded to a doctor who graduated from the ULg for all of their clinical and research work.
