Position of the Gender and Equality Council

1st report, April 2023

The Gender and Equality Council has worked tirelessly to draw up a draft Action Plan for Gender Equality at the University of Liège, which was presented to the Board of Directors on October 11, 2023 and integrated into the Institution's Strategic Plan. Through a series of concrete measures to promote equality, it shows how ULiège is now positioning itself in relation to gender issues, affirming that gender-based injustices and violence of any kind are neither acceptable nor accepted.

The Gender and Equality Council (CGE) was officially created by the Board of Directors on October 12, 2022, who also accepted a new way of operating at ULiège, as the CGE works according to a participative dynamic. The Council is open to the entire university community, including staff and students. Its working meetings, of variable geometry, bring together motivated volunteers with useful expertise and/or a scientific or personal interest in the theme.

This draft action plan proposes concrete measures along five lines (work/life balance, diversity in positions of authority or opinion, equality in recruitment and careers, integration of gender and intersectional dimensions in teaching and research, measures to combat violence based on gender or sexual preference). It represents the first major action of the Conseil Genre et Égalité. The work that led to its drafting, supported by the University authorities, was based on scientific studies, numerical indicators and simple observations and testimonies, with the aim of building an ambitious institutional gender policy.
