hilippe Bossaert is a veterinarian with a scientific background and a wealth of practical experience. As part of his PhD, he carried out research into dairy cow fertility at Ghent University (2005-2010). He has always been passionate about training students, as demonstrated by his activities and initiatives during his doctoral years and as a lecturer at the University of Antwerp (2010-2018, Food).
His practical experience of cow health comes from seven and a half years working as a practitioner in the Netherlands. Obstetrics is a discipline he has always particularly loved. In addition, he completed his knowledge without reproducing mares and small animals. He also worked on an insect farm and in a feed factory for a poultry industry. At the University of Liège, he hopes to combine his ambitions as a researcher and teacher.
Philippe Bossaert's research focuses on the ecological and ethical limits of raising production animals. " The use of insects as feed could reduce the ecological footprint of aquaculture and poultry farming, both of which are expanding. Although insects are part of the natural diet of these animals, their use is currently limited, but it is a topic that is attracting the attention of scientists and entrepreneurs. "
Professor of ruminant theriogenology, he teaches veterinary masters students. His courses cover the semiology of production animals, and health and production management. He also supervises multidisciplinary activities in ruminant medicine (outpatient clinic and farm visits with reproduction monitoring).
